Amazon.com Product Description
With a design inspired by the Nordic light, the amazingly thin Sony Ericsson T650i fuses illumination effects with a stainless steel finish and scratch-proof mineral glass. Measuring just 12.5mm thin (0.49 inches), it's packed full of communication features to keep you connected and entertained wherever you roam: tri-mode GSM, connectivity for 2100 MHz 3G networks (found in Europe and Asia), Bluetooth with stereo music streaming, and an integrated FM radio. Other features include a 3.2-megapixel camera with video capture, Access NetFront web browser with RSS feeds, and Memory Stick Micro (M2) expansion slot.

This slim 3G phone conceals a high performance feature set, including 3.2-megapixel camera, full web browser, and digital audio player.
This unlocked cell phone can be used with a GSM network service provider and it provides tri-band connectivity (900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz). It does not come with a SIM card, and it requires that you provide a SIM card for usage with your selected service provider. When paired with a compatible 3G network that uses UMTS 2100 MHz connectivity (found in Europe and Asia), you'll enjoy a variety of feature-rich wireless services with speeds up to 384 Kbps--from data connectivity to your office to multimedia streaming, and take advantage of simultaneous voice and data services. In the United States and foreign territories where 2100 MHz 3G networks are not available, you'll continue to receive data service via EDGE network (depending on network compatibility).

The 1.9-inch display has a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels and support for 256K colors. Scratch-proof mineral glass is placed directly onto the screen, which makes the colors more intense, improves visibility in bright environments, and widens the viewing angle of the screen up to 170 degrees. The unique illumination effects on the keypad and the sides of the phone interact with animations on the screen. As these animations move across the display they set off waves of light around the keypad, which stand-out against the reflective stainless steel finish.

The back of the phone includes the autofocus 3.2-megapixel camera, which is protected by a lens cover and features a xenon flash. Camera features include choices of four resolutions--from 640 x 480 pixels (VGA) to 2048 x 1536 pixels (3MP)--panorama mode, red-eye reduction, spot metering, a macro setting, and image stabilization. The camcorder function enables you to capture 176 x 144-pixel resolution video clips (QCIF) in MPEG4 format.

The T650i's mineral glass display is scratch-resistant and crystal-clear even in bright sunlight.
When it comes to keeping you entertained, the T650i is a natural. Its media player lets you to listen to your favorite tunes wherever you are, and thanks to the latest Bluetooth technology it's possible to stream music directly from your phone to a headset. The in-phone media player supports video and audio playback--supported audio formats include MP3 and AAC. Music, video, and image files can be saved to Memory Stick Micro (M2) media. The phone also supports a USB mass storage mode, allowing you to store and transport important files like documents, images, and music files.

If you're looking for a mobile productivity partner, the T650i has you covered. Support is built in for sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, and sound via MMS messages. When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video camera, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging possibilities. T9 text entry, a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit-- a plus for mobile email and text messaging users. It also includes such PIM tools as a calendar, calculator, to-do list, stopwatch, and alarm clock.

The phone also ships with a built-in email client with support for POP3 and IMAP4 protocols, while the included Access NetFront Web Browser allows you to surf full HTML web sites. The T650i also supports RSS feeds, allowing you to use your phone to view up-to-the-minute news and other content from selected Web sites and blogs. Just subscribe to the feed and let it come to you.

The T650i can store up to 1000 contacts (each including 20 fields of data) and display 30 received, dialed and missed calls. The phone's voice activated dialing makes calling your favorite contacts as easy as saying their names, while the built-in speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Polyphonic ringtones are included and it's also compatible with MP3/AAC ringtones. Picture caller ID lets you assign a photo to specific callers. 4 out of 5 stars A GREAT PHONE!!   March 9, 2008

I am enjoying this phone tremendously! I would have given it a rating of five stars but I can't get the screen saver to stay off for more than thirty seconds. Everything else works great!
The camera is awesome, the video camera is even more awesome and the phone to computer transfer is one of the best features you could ask for on this phone.
There are so many things that you can do with this phone and it is very stylish too.

1 out of 5 stars Surprisingly High S.A.R   November 28, 2007

I was very surprised after receiving this phone to discover that it had a very high S.A.R. rating of 1.8. Too high for FCC approval for sale in the U.S. The phone was actually manufactured by Sony Ericsson AB in Sweden where such high S.A.R values are considered acceptable. I won't be using this phone so my failure to check the S.A.R value beforehand was a costly mistake.

5 out of 5 stars Best Cell Phone Yet   November 16, 2007
P. McGuire (USA, California)
5 out of 5 found this review helpful

I have an extensive history with cell phones. I've used most Motorola brands: V190, Razr V3, Rizr Z3, and a few others: Samsung T509, Nokia 8801 (ugh). All these phones have had serious flaws that resulted in me immediately getting a new phone within a month or so. I will be comparing the T650i to these phones.

Quick Summary: The Sony Ericsson T650i is the best phone I've used yet. I seriously think this one is a keeper. It is a cell phone that actually works and functions like it should.

Audio Quality:
The ear piece is very loud and very easy to understand (unlike the Razr) even when driving with the window down! I actually have to turn it down a few notches (what a concept!) because it is so loud. The static I heard with the Rizr Z3 is nonexistent in the T650i. I also get several bars more of reception with the T650i in my room (a dead spot) and at work.

Build Quality:
The build quality of the T650i is excellent. It has a solid feel in your hand. It is light (not as heavy as the Nokia 8801) and very solid - no rattles/creaks when you shake it/squeeze it. The only complaint: the video button is far enough down that I am hitting it a lot while I am talking - so that will take some getting used to. The top end is rounded nicely so it doesn't cut into your ear while you talk. The back cover EASILY comes off (unlike Nokia 8801). The back cover is a little loose (movable) when connected but I can live with that.

Keypad & Menu Setups:
The keypad is definitely small. If you have large hands/fingers (I do) it can take some getting used to. However, I've lived with small keypads in the last several phones I used (8801, Rizr, Razr, etc...) so it isn't too bad. The menu options are very different from a Motorola/Nokia phone so it does take some getting used to. Overall, I love Sony Ericsson's menus better than Nokia and Motorola by far - they just seem more user friendly and much more logical.

Screen Display:
The screen quality is better than any phone I've used yet - especially in camera/video mode. The T650i's screen is SUPER bright and super sharp - even in daylight (as advertised). I wish there were more color themes to set but it works.

Cell Phone Camera:
I guess I'm one of the few people that use a phone as a phone. I don't use the internet, text messaging, or the camera at all (I have a laptop/DSLR for those things). So I cannot comment on those features because I simply don't use them. I did take a picture and I liked it but a Canon DSLR is my preference. :)

The Manual:
I know tech people like myself aren't supposed to read the manual but I thought for a $500 phone I would at least look at it. Compared to Motorola and Nokia - I really liked Sony Ericsson's manual. It had a lot of pictures and even answered questions that I (a tech person) had. The HOW TO pictures were VERY detailed and showed every step of the process. So A+ to Sony Ericsson on their manuals.

The Little Things:
You can tell Sony Ericsson put a lot of effort into this phone. By default the Clock (time) shows up while in a call - unlike Motorola. And unlike the Rizr Z3 the clock does not freeze while in a call - it shows the current time. This is a big plus for me since I talk a lot on my lunch breaks at work and always had to ask people what time it was.

All in all - this is an AWESOME phone. If you have the $$$ - get this phone. I have no gripes about this phone and that is a first for me.

No question... I think Sony Ericsson has a loyal customer from now on.

P.S. My 2 year old Nokia bluetooth device did not work with this phone at all. I'll update review when I get a new bluetooth device in the future.

--------------------------------------------------------

Update: (1/5/08)

I still have this phone! This will be the first phone in over 2 years that I did not get rid of within the first few months. I am simply LOVING this phone. There are NO complaints whatsoever.

I did get my Nokia bluetooth device to connect with the phone after doing some more research. I simply forgot to put the nokia bluetooth device into pairing mode before. It works like a charm... The bluetooth on this phone is so far better than any Motorola I've used that I am amazed.

I will recommend this phone to all my friends.
